Creating a work-in-progress digital space for young people to feel seen, supported and believed in.

Website creation for Chance: Shrewsbury

Client: Chance: Date: April 2026

Overview

I worked with Chance: Shrewsbury to design and build a website that could introduce the organisation, share its vision, and help people understand why its work matters.

Chance: is a Community Interest Company being developed with young people aged 18–25 in mind. Its aim is to create a space where young people can grow, connect, belong and believe, with a focus on support that feels human, real and rooted in trust. In Chance:’s own words, they are “not here to fix people, they’re here to believe in them.”

The website needed to reflect that approach.

Rather than feeling overly corporate, polished or distant, the site needed to feel young, open and full of real-life energy. It had to explain the idea behind Chance:, show the kind of support the organisation hopes to offer, and invite people to get involved, while still feeling warm, conversational and easy to connect with.
Chance: already had the beginnings of a brand identity, but it had not yet been developed into a wider digital experience. My role was to take those existing foundations and build them into a website that felt clear, expressive and true to the organisation’s purpose.

Process

The starting point was understanding what Chance: needed to communicate and how the website should make people feel.

At this stage, the organisation was still developing, so the website needed to act as both an introduction and a proposal. It had to explain what Chance: is aiming to become, why it is needed, who it is for, and how supporters, partners and young people could connect with the project.

A key idea behind the site was the phrase “work in progress.”

This became a central creative direction for the design and content. Rather than presenting Chance: as something overly polished or finished, the website reflects the reality of growth, change and figuring things out. That idea felt especially important for an organisation built around young people, support and belonging.

Visually, the site uses photo snapshots, layered layouts, handwritten marker-style elements and a DIY feel to create something that feels energetic and human. The design is intentionally imperfect in places, not messy for the sake of it, but to avoid the staged, sterile feeling that support-focused websites can sometimes have. It needed to feel like real life: active, personal, honest and still becoming.

The tone of voice was also an important part of the project. Across the site, the wording is conversational and direct, helping Chance: feel more like a friend than an institution. The language avoids talking down to young people or making the support feel intimidating. Instead, it creates a sense that people do not need to perform, pretend or have everything figured out before reaching out.

The Chance: team provided the core copy for the website, giving the project a clear sense of voice and purpose from the start. My role was to take that content and bring it to life online, shaping the structure, layouts and visual direction around the organisation’s aims. The copy gave the site its heart; the design needed to give it the right atmosphere, helping the pages feel open, youthful, conversational and true to Chance:’s work-in-progress energy.

The result is a website that brings together brand, message and atmosphere, helping people understand not only what Chance: wants to do, but why it matters.

Outcome

The final website gives Chance: a digital home that feels true to the organisation’s purpose: supportive, youthful, human and full of possibility.

It introduces Chance: as an organisation built around belief rather than judgement, helping communicate its ambition to create a space where young people can grow, connect and belong. The site balances practical information with a sense of personality, giving supporters and potential partners a clear understanding of what Chance: is developing and how they can get involved.

More than a simple information site, it acts as a starting point for the organisation’s story. It gives Chance: a platform to share its vision, build support and show the kind of energy it wants to bring into the lives of young people in Shrewsbury.

The website reflects an organisation still growing into itself, and that is part of its strength. It feels open, honest and alive — a digital space that does not ask people to be perfect, but simply invites them to be part of something that believes in them.
